To get to the basics, Malbec wine is produced from a purple colored grape variety which has an inky dark color and robust tannins. This is also one of the six grape varieties which is used to produce the famous Bordeaux wine. The French plantations are in Cahors which is in the South West Region of France. A misconception regarding this wine is that it has its origins from Argentina.
